A week at TechEd North America in Houston

WP_20140511_10_43_33_ProWow what a busy week at TechEd North America, and while recovering it was also an intense week at work, at the WMUG NL and at home. Finally got some time to blog about TechEd NA. 😉 As mentioned in my earlier blog about TechEd North America, I was able to assist Wally Mead during four of his Instructor Led Labs. Besides the four hours of fun during the Instructor Led Labs the week was overwhelming. Okay I missed the atmosphere and the Community Style sessions of the Microsoft Management Summit, looking at the total package TechEd North America was great and the Day 5 event of the Houston Area Systems Management User Group was the icing on the cake. This time not really a technical blog by the way 🙂 I will continue the MDM series soon again, so stay tuned!

Thanks to Sybex, Santos Martinez and me were able to give away and sign 50 Mastering System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager books in total. We did this in two small get-togethers at the Microsoft Premier Support booth and the Myitforum Lounge. During the get-together at the Myitforum booth all books were away in 11 minutes! Thank you so much to all the people that took the time to come by and I hope that you will be enjoy reading the book and implementing the great System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager product!

During TechEd no really big on premise announcements, the current focus of Microsoft is at this moment Windows Azure and the Microsoft’s Enterprise Mobility Suite where Windows Intune and System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager come together. Focusing on Microsoft’s Enterprise Mobility Suite, Microsoft is investing heavily in this suite by adding support for not only Windows Phone 8.1 and in Q4 of this year also application and data management on the mobile devices. Some keywords regarding to the Enterprise Mobility Suite; investments in protecting data (Azure Rights Management), Managing access to SaaS access, Mobile device and application management (windows Intune working together Office 365), Hybrid identity (Azure AD), Access and information protection (on prem and in Azure).

In Windows Azure some big things were announced during the keynote of Brad Anderson. Microsoft is going to or has released the following features in Windows Azure.

  • Microsoft Azure ExpressRoute
  • Microsoft Azure RemoteApp (preview)
  • Microsoft Azure Site Recovery (preview)
  • Antimalware in Microsoft Azure
  • Windows 7/Windows 8 in Microsoft Azure

A week at TechEd North America allowed me to catch up with great friends which I met during the last couple of MMS events and during the MVP summits last year, and as always I was able to meet a lot of new people.

If you want to see the sessions, look here.

Thanks for now, and I will be back soon with some MDM content 🙂 And TechEd NA? Hope till next year! 🙂
